China recently conducted a joint combat patrol near Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea, an area also claimed by the Philippines. The patrol, conducted on August 7th, included sea and air maneuvers testing various military capabilities. Jay Batong Bakal, director of the Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, highlighted Beijing's increasingly aggressive actions. Despite an international tribunal ruling against China's claims, Beijing persists in asserting control over nearly the entire South China Sea.
